Carlisle Golf Club was founded in 1908 with the original layout being designed by Mr Theodore Moon. The course was then remodelled after the second world war by Mr Philip Mackenzie Ross.
The club is less than ½ a mile from junction 43 of the M6 motorway. It is situated on the outskirts of Carlisle amongst mature trees in gently undulating parkland and is one of the most attractive courses in northern England, providing a test for both Amateur and Professional golfers. The status of the course is augmented by a reputation for having magnificent greens and well manicured fairways.
The R & A brought Regional Qualifying to Carlisle on 6 occasions commencing 1996, the first Club in Cumbria to be so honoured. Carlisle hosted the Men's English Seniors Championship, the Ladies North of England Championships and many other Championships, Amateur & Professional during the club's 100 plus years' history. During 2023 the Club will be host to England Golf 'Race to Woodhall Spa' Regional Final, Home Nations Junior Team Regional Final and the Norther Junior Masters Golf Tour
